The REM610 is a motor protection relay designed to protect, measure and monitor medium and large asynchronous low and high voltage motors

REM610 is a motor protection relay for the protection, measurement and monitoring of large and medium sized asynchronous low voltage motors and small and medium asynchronous high voltage motors in the manufacturing and processing industries.

The REM610 is a member of ABB's Relion product family and part of its 610 product family. The series includes protective relays for feeder, motor and general system voltage monitoring. The plug-in design facilitates debugging of switchgear and enables quick and safe insertion and removal of relay plug-in units. ®

These protective relays can be used with circuit breaker and contactor controlled motor drivers in a variety of applications. Because these relays are enhanced with RTD sensors or optional additional cards for thermistor elements, they can be used to directly measure the temperature of critical motor components such as bearings and windings. They are also used for the protection of cable feeders and distribution transformers, benefiting from thermal overload protection in addition to phase overcurrent protection, ground fault protection and phase unbalance protection.

The REM610 handles fault situations during motor start-up, normal operation, idle and rest cooling. The main functions of motor IED include thermal overload protection, cumulative motor start monitoring, operational stall protection, ground fault protection and phase loss protection. In addition, thermal overload protection can be enhanced by direct temperature measurement with the optional RTD module.

REM610 supports several standard communication protocols, including IEC 61850, IEC 60870-5-103, Modbus, Profibus®, SPA, and LON.
