The VMIC family of products was originally manufactured and developed by General Electric's Automated Industrial Production division and later acquired by Abaco Systems. These devices feature an analog-digital or digital-to-analog conversion board, a central processing unit, and a set of analog or digital input and output modules. The VMIVME-7698-146 module is built as a single board computer.

The VMIVME-7698-146 unit is equipped with a Celeron single-socket Socket 370 processor. It uses an operating system capable of supporting Windows NT and Windows 2000, followed by Linux, VxWorks, QNX and Solaris.

The VMIVME-7698-146 module is equipped with a range of special features for embedded applications. There are up to 512 megabytes of IDE CompactFlash (optional). The device has three programmable 16-bit timers with 32 KB of battery backup SRAM. This unit supports remote Ethernet boot and comes with integrated software optional watchdog timer (with reset function)

The VMIVME-7698-146 supports the connection of VMEbus P2 to HD/ floppy disk drives. There is a PMC extension site with VMEbus P2 input and output. Support PC MIP extended sites and VME64 mode (A32 / / D32 A24 / D16 / D08 / MBLT64 / BLT32).

VMEbus is equipped with interrupt handlers, interrupters and system controllers.
