The IC697ALG230 is a basic converter module that can be paired with the current extender module in the GE Series 90-30. The complete analog subsystem includes basic converter and expander module. However, the base converter IC697ALG230 has eight differential inputs and can be configured individually for current or voltage. The base converter accepts bipolar or unipolar analog inputs up to 10 V at full scale. In addition, the base converter can accept 4 to 20 mA current loop signals as needed. There is also a separate user scaling on each input channel on the module. The unit does not need to be configured with jumpers or DIP switches, and basic converters typically have fast update rates. Easily configured using Windows or MS-DOS software features.
The IC697ALG230 module converts the input to digital form for use by the CPU or other controllers that access the analog input through the VME backplane. All converted data is displayed as a complement of 2, and the resolution of the basic converter is 14 bits. Oversampling and averaging techniques can further improve this resolution. All inputs are protected against transient and steady-state overvoltage. The programmable controller uses a percentage of the AI reference input via analog, although a maximum of 8,000 words of memory are currently available.
